We woke up sailing down (or up?) the Danube River! The curtains were open and we all loved the view from the dining room this morning!
Little did we know that is was these little munchkins back home did a rain dance that made it possible for today’s sailing! Thank you, August and Jonah!
We had several hours to enjoy the boat’s amenities! We chose the loungers up top for some sunshine and wonderful breezes!
Scho and I put in some laps (Are you proud of us, Mary?) and checked out the putting greens and shuffleboard onboard!
We listened to our Program Director’s lecture in the Lounge about growing up in Bucharest, Romania under Communist rule. WOW, it was so sad to hear about that unimaginable way of life. It was very moving.
During lunch we watched the arrival into the port at Bratislava, Slovakia! We were certainly not alone! Multiple river boats were already docked, several of which belonged to Viking!
We were three boats deep when we docked!
We gathered right outside our boat and met up with our tour guide, a local woman who was passionate about her home country! (She did a great job!)
The town was very walkable and full of beautiful statues, amazing architecture and history!
John and I remembered Old Town from our trip three years ago. It was a vibrant area filled with cafes and shops and we loved it! It was great to be back!
There was a pharmacy located inside a historical building (previous photo) that had an antique cash register, made by NCR in Dayton, Ohio! (My home town!)
This was a memorial built to honor the victims of the Holocaust.
After the walking tour ended, John and Joe hightailed it to the pub our guide had mentioned that had the BEST beer in town! (And she was correct!)
We sat with two other couples from the boat—we called them “Minnesota” and “Iowa”! They enjoyed the cold beers as much as we did!
Our final stop in Bratislava was St. Martin’s Cathedral. It was yet another beautiful church!
Flat Mary caught up with us and insisted she be in a picture with Jan and I, along with the most adorable man we could find!
Oh Flat Mary, we were so happy you could join us in Bratislava!
Back on the boat, we enjoyed a champagne toast and delicious appetizers with Oliver, our hotel manger.
During dinner we found out that the water level was too low to sail to Vienna. Bummer! But the plan for tomorrow was for everyone to take a bus to Vienna for tours and then to be back on the Aegir for dinner and a final sleep. We will be changing ships on Thursday.
After dinner we watched a Hungarian/Slovakian show with singers and dancers. It was delightful!
We all laughef so hard when the main singer picked John out of the crowd to join her on stage. He adamantly refused! (Can you believe that!?!)
Her second choice was our friend “Minnesota” who made us proud!
The show was a great ending to a wonderful day! We missed you, Steve! Thrilled you could join us, flat Mary!
